  4.     DIED. Prince Franz Josef II of Liechtenstein, 83, monarch
  5. of the 62-sq.-mi. principality for 51 years; in Grabs,
  6. Switzerland. The twelfth ruler of Liechtenstein and a nephew of
  7. Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, whose assassination in 1914
  8. triggered World War I, he was the first Prince to take up
  9. permanent residence in the principality. He directed a
  10. modernization that transformed Liechtenstein from an
  11. underdeveloped rural community into one of Europe's richest
  12. enclaves. He is succeeded by his oldest son, Prince Hans Adam,
